ASID Exhibits at the 36th Annual Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show

To most, March is the beginning of warm weather and sunshine, but to Pittsburgh designers and design enthusiasts, March is the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show.

This is the 36th year of the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show, the region’s most trusted marketplace with over 10 acres of everything you need for your home. This year, the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show will take place from March 10-19 at the Pittsburgh Convention Center Downtown.

ASID members and some of our Industry Partners have collaborated to bring Home and Garden Show-goers designer showcases that demonstrate the fluidity of an interior space.

Professional ASID member, Kyra Krotec of Chatham University’s Interior Architecture Program, has been prepping for this event since January, creating the Office of the Future. Kyra got her inspiration for the Office of the Future from the PPG color palette Biocentric. “The Office of the Future creates an experience in the workplace, and challenges the limits of design. By creating a fresh and invigorating atmosphere through color application and furniture placement, the environment encourages collaboration and innovation. Engaging Chatham University’s commitment to sustainability, the design emphasizes organic and natural elements while incorporating technology and futuristic design elements to encourage forward thinking and efficiency,” stated Krotec.

She also commented on what makes the Office of the Future so unique: “The Office of the Future features modular and multipurpose pieces that evoke a sense of place and biocentricity. The Office of the Future features flexibility for the multifaceted professional and leans heavily upon sustainability principles.”

7-year member Erin Faith, of Faith Color Consulting and Design, will be creating a living room space. Erin stated that her room “is inspired by small living, the typical Pittsburgh Living room of a young family, and PPG's new Essence color palette geared toward simplifying life. These inspirations gave way to a multifunctional space where living space for the whole family, plus office and entryway solutions are incorporated in a way that is welcoming, down to earth, and vibrant at the same time. I like to incorporate new and unique pieces (in this case with the help of Penn Rustics furniture), re-use and re-purpose old ones, utilize color and a variety of finishes (all with the help of ASID industry partners), and to combine them in a way that makes sense at first glance. ASID Designers are the professionals with the technical knowledge, community of resources in our industry partners, and the vision to see your project through from inspiration to final installation!”

8-year member and Pittsburgh Design Diva’s founder, Melodie Schooley, will be creating a Re-Use and Re-Purpose Room. Schooley’s repurpose room will include dry erase laminate, home automation, and a bar that doubles as a laundry station. The bar will include smoothies, juice and milkshakes. Children are welcome in the space for a drink of their choice from the bar, and encouraged to draw on the new dry-erase walls. The functioning home automation display will show how the equipment can program lighting and other electronics for people’s needs.
